Calhoun Announces Events in Recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month


Calhoun Community College has planned several events in recognition of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

This week, the college will host Breast Cancer Awareness seminars on both the Decatur and Huntsville campuses.  The Decatur campus event will be held Tuesday, October 16, beginning at 11am in the Chasteen Student Center.  The Huntsville campus seminar is planned for Wednesday, October 17, beginning at noon in the Student Center.  According to event coordinator Kelly Hovater, the seminars will feature guest speakers Elaine Rice-Tibbs and Sandy Cross.  In addition, informational materials and light refreshments will be provided.  Both seminars are free and open to the public.

The week of October 22-25, students in the Calhoun Cosmetology Department will “Think Pink” and raise funds to support the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer by doing pink nails and pink hair extensions.  Appointments are encouraged; however, walk-ins will be taken on a limited basis.  The event is open to the public and hours are 9am – 1pm each day.  For appointments or additional information, call 256-306-2659.
