Calhoun Community College to Host 2011 Workforce Expo

The Decatur campus of Calhoun Community College will be the site for the 2011 CAREER AND WORKFORCE EXPO, scheduled for Wednesday, February 2, 2011, from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. in the Kelley Gymnasium.

Last year, close to 1300 students, parents, educators and citizens from communities and school systems across Calhoun's service area attended.  The event brings together local businesses, industries and employers who provide the jobs in our area and the young people who will soon fill those jobs. There is no charge to participate in this event.

“Workforce readiness is a need that is repeatedly identified among employers in this area.  The Career and Workforce Expo represents an effective way to reach hundreds of young people and to encourage them to begin preparing for the jobs of the future,” commented Gwen Baker, coordinator of Calhoun’s Tech Prep program.

The Career & Workforce Expo is an annual program sponsored by the Calhoun Community College Tech Prep Consortium in conjunction with the Decatur-Morgan County Chamber of Commerce, the Morgan County Economic Development Association, the Lawrence County Industrial Development Board and the Limestone County Economic Development Association.  Additional support is provided each year by area businesses and industries.  Sponsors for this year's event include Joe Wheeler EMC (gold sponsor) and 3M, Eaton Corporation, ITW Sexton and Redstone Federal Credit Union (silver sponsors).

The Calhoun Tech Prep Consortium includes Calhoun Community College, Athens City Schools, Decatur City Schools, Hartselle City Schools, Limestone County Schools, Madison City Schools, and Morgan County Schools.
