The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) has awarded a grant for $115,689 to Calhoun Community College for the college’s Surgical Technology Program. According to Dr. Debi Hendershot, Calhoun Dean for Planning, Research and Grants, the grant funding will be used specifically to purchase a digital endoscopy training system, which will enhance the College’s Surgical Technology Program, and drastically improve safety outcomes for patients in Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, and Morgan counties. Decatur, AL – The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) has announced the approval of a grant in the amount of $199,997 to Calhoun Community College for the college’s Automotive Technology for Dual Enrollment Students project. According to Gwen Baker, director of Dual Enrollment at Calhoun, the investment will provide training for fifteen (15) additional students per semester for automotive technician careers. The project will ensure that the program is able to produce graduates with the skill-sets and competencies necessary to succeed in the automotive technology maintenance workforce. Decatur, AL – U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross today announced that the Department’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $1.5 million grant to Calhoun Community College of Tanner, Alabama, to help build an Automotive Technology Program Facility on Calhoun’s Decatur campus. Calhoun Community College recently received a supplemental grant of $65,429 from the Alabama Community College System as part of a statewide reallocation of funds to all Alabama community colleges for Dual Enrollment Workforce Scholarship Programs. During the spring 2021 semester, the College awarded $357,284.76 in Dual Enrollment scholarships to over 528 students from local high schools and home schools. The funds are in addition to a $700,000 grant previously received by the College in the fall for career technical scholarships. In addition to ARC funds, local sources will provide $144,356 bringing the total project funding to $252,356.
