Notice of Availability of Institutional and Financial Aid Information

The Higher Education Act of 1965 (HEA), as amended by the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008 (HEOA), includes many disclosure and reporting requirements. A disclosure requirement is information that a postsecondary education institution is required to distribute or make available to another party, such as students or employees. A reporting requirement is information submitted to the U.S. Department of Education or other agencies. The following list provides a brief description of the information required to be made available to students as well as how to obtain the information. This notice was organized using a reference list created by the National Postsecondary Education Cooperative (NPEC).

Contact Information for Assistance in Obtaining Institutional or Financial Aid Information

Each school must make available to prospective and enrolled students information regarding how and where to contact individuals designated to assist enrolled or prospective students in obtaining the institutional or financial aid information required to be disclosed under HEA Section 485(a)(1), Section 485(f), Section 485(h), and Section 485(j). Privacy of Student Records

The Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) was implemented in 1974 as a federal law to protect the privacy of student education records. FERPA also gives students the right to review their education records, seek to amend inaccurate information in their records, and provide consent for the disclosure of their records. This law applies to all schools that receive funds under an applicable program of the U.S. Department of Education.

Drug & Alcohol Abuse Prevention Program

In compliance with the Drug Free Schools and Communities Act Amendment passed by the U.S. Congress in 1989, Calhoun Community College has adopted and implemented a program to prevent the use of illicit drugs and the abuse of alcohol by students and employees. The publication entitled “Legal Actions Regarding Unlawful Use, Possession, or Distribution of Alcoholic Beverages and Illicit Drugs,” contains information concerning standards of conduct–legal sanctions, health risks, available treatment, and disciplinary sanctions for violations of the policy. Copies of this document can be found in the Albert P. Brewer Library, the Office of the Dean of Student Services, and in all counselors’ offices at the Decatur and Huntsville campuses.

Student Outcomes

The Student Right-to-Know Act was enacted in 1990 by federal law and requires institutions that receive Title IV HEA student financial aid to collect, report and/or disclose graduation rates for full-time, first-time, degree-seeking undergraduate students and students receiving athletically related student aid.
Graduate and Professional Education Placement for Graduates is not applicable to Calhoun Community College.

Intercollegiate Athletic Program Participation Rates and Financial Support Data

The Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act requires co-educational institutions of postsecondary education that participate in a Title IV, federal student financial assistance program, and have an intercollegiate athletic program, to prepare an annual report to the Department of Education on athletic participation, staffing, and revenues and expenses, by men’s and women’s teams. The Department will use this information in preparing its required report to the Congress on gender equity in intercollegiate athletics. Constitution & Citizenship Day Observance

The U.S. Constitution is one of the most influential legal documents in existence, created over 200 years ago. Calhoun Community College supports every effort to affirm the American Democratic process. Each year on September 17th, the college participates in the annual observance of American Constitution and Citizenship Day. On this day, special time is set aside to educate students on the importance of the constitution, the role it still plays in their everyday lives, and being responsible citizens. Some of the activities include classroom viewing of constitution day video, American flags on display, copies of the constitution made available and voter registration forms are distributed.

Voter Registration

Voter registration forms are available daily through the Student Services Office and/or in the Special Student Populations/Disabilities Services office on both the Decatur and Huntsville Campus. We also conduct voter registration drives during periods of state and national election. For information on voting, visit the U.S. Election Assistance Commission.
