What Type of Student Are You?

When you start filling out your application, it can get tricky knowing what type of student you are and what is required from you. This is important information because different student classifications have different application policies and steps they may have to take. Learn more about the different types of students and requirements for each below.

Dual Enrollment/Accelerated Students

A student who is earning college credit while still in high school is considered either a Dual Enrollment or Accelerated student.

First Time Freshmen

A “first time freshman” is a student who has not previously attended any college after high school graduation or completion of a GED is considered a first-time freshman.

Transient Students

A Transient Student is a student who is currently enrolled at another college or university and seeks credit that will transfer back to his or her home institution.

Visiting Students

A cooperative arrangement exists with Oakwood University, the University of Alabama in Huntsville, and Calhoun Community College. Under this arrangement, a student at any of the participating institutions may request permission to attend a class at one of the other schools.

Transfer Students

A “transfer student” is a student who has attended another college or university prior to enrolling at Calhoun to earn a certificate or degree. This includes students who have earned a B.S./B.A. degree.

International Students

International students who are citizens of another country and hold an F-1 visa must meet specific academic, linguistic, and financial requirements necessary for admission into the College.

Returning Students

A “Returning student” is a former Calhoun student who has not attended any college or university within one calendar year (3 semesters). Students will be required to submit a new application for admission.

Non-Degree Seeking or Adult Students

A non-degree seeking student is a student who wishes to attend Calhoun Community College but does not wish to pursue a degree or certificate.
