Transient Students

What is a Transient Student?

A transient student is a student enrolled at one university but taking classes at another institution that count towards their degree.

Important Requirements for Transient Students

  • Apply to Calhoun

    Submit an application for admission and be sure to choose the transient student option. 
  • Send Your Transient Letter 

    Have your home school’s Registrar send a Letter of Good Standing (transient letter) to Calhoun’s Admissions Office, or upload it here. The letter must list approved courses and confirm they apply to your degree. You won’t be able to register until it’s received. 
  • Get Your Calhoun Login (MyCalhoun ID)

    Once you’re admitted, we’ll email you a MyCalhoun login to:
    • Register for classes 
    • View your schedule 
    • Pay tuition 
    • Access campus services 
  • Pick Up Student Essentials 

    Once you’ve paid tuition, you can get: 
    • Your student ID card 
    • A parking decal 
    • Your books from the bookstore 
  • Request Calhoun Transcript for Credit

    After the semester ends, request your Calhoun transcript be sent to your institution.

Outgoing Transient Students from Calhoun

If you are a Calhoun student looking to take courses at another institution, follow these steps:

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must have a 2.0 cumulative GPA and be in good standing.
  • Cannot be a first-semester student.
  • Must not have registration, financial holds, or previous completion of the course with a “C” or better.
  • Ensure you meet Calhoun’s prerequisites for the requested course(s).
  • Not be on a third attempt or more for the requested course.
  • Not exceed the maximum allowed credit hours for the term of attendance.
  • Not be currently enrolled in the requested course(s) at Calhoun.
  • Be currently enrolled in a degree or certificate program.
  • Have requirements remaining towards a degree or certificate program.

Steps to Apply for Transiency

Receive Approval from Registrar’s Office

  • You must receive approval from the Registrar’s Office before enrolling at another institution.

Ensure Accreditation

Credit will only be accepted from regionally accredited institutions where there are reasonable course equivalencies. It is the responsibility of the student to determine the accreditation status of any institution where they intend to take courses as a transient student.

Financial Aid & Payment Information

  • Transient students cannot receive financial aid at both institutions. Financial aid must be processed by the home institution.

  • Students should contact their home school’s financial aid office several weeks before Calhoun’s semester start date.

  • Transient students are responsible for paying their tuition, fees, and books by the payment deadline. No exceptions will be made.
