Workforce Scholarships

Funds are available through a Workforce grant to provide scholarships to Dual Enrollment students in specific business and technical programs. These Dual Enrollment scholarship funds are available to eligible high school students participating in approved technology programs offered by Calhoun Community College.

Student Eligibility for Workforce Scholarships

  • The student must be in the 10th, 11th, or 12th grade.
  • Students in Advanced Manufacturing and Automotive classes must have a 2.0 GPA or higher. Students in all other programs, and students taking any academic classes, must have a 2.5 GPA or higher.
  • All students receiving scholarships must meet established placement criteria as determined by appropriate ACT, SAT or placement exam scores.
  • Approval from school counselor or administrator is required. Approval from secondary school officials indicates that the student has demonstrated both academic readiness and social maturity.
  • A scholarship application must be submitted each semester.

*Application for a dual enrollment technology scholarship does not guarantee that a scholarship will be awarded.

Continuous Eligibility: Students who meet the criteria for initial admission to a Dual Enrollment for Dual Credit Program, as specified in the Chancellor’s Procedures for Dual Enrollment, will maintain continuous eligibility so long as they earn a grade of “C” or better in all attempted college courses.

Workforce Scholarship Policies

Each student who receives a Dual Enrollment Technology Scholarship must have declared technical program of study and only courses required for that program of study will be eligible for scholarship funds. The main purpose of the funding is to provide assistance with technical courses. Not all academic classes are eligible for funding.

Dual Enrollment technology scholarship funds may be used to cover not only the required technical courses but required academic courses as well. However, funding for Career/technical classes is the main focus of the Workforce Scholarship grant.

Dual Enrollment Technology scholarship funds may be used to cover tuition, textbooks and supplies depending on availability of funds, the needs of the individual student and the requirements of the technical classes. The scope of each scholarship is determined by available funding and the scholarship grant guidelines. Costs covered will be determined on an individual basis.

The scholarship funds are contingent upon allocations by the Alabama Legislature. Calhoun has received technology scholarship grants since the program was initiated by the state in 2008, however future grant awards are not guaranteed and will depend on availability of funding through the Alabama Workforce program.
