Calhoun Adult Education Department Offering Free GED ClassesOctober 18, 2018
Decatur, AL – The Calhoun Community College Adult Education department is offering free GED classes at accessible class sites throughout the Huntsville and Decatur communities. Ready to Work and the Certified Production Manufacturing Technician program are also offered, free of charge, on Calhoun’s Decatur and Huntsville Calhoun campuses. Both offer nationally-recognized certifications.
According to Adult Education Director Dana Wolfe, adults who are at least 18 years of age and not presently enrolled in school may participate in Adult Education programs. Students ages 16 – 17 may enroll in Adult Education services with proper approval and paperwork. A picture ID is required for orientation and two forms of ID are required for GED testing services.
“Education is so important for personal advancement in our society today. By obtaining your GED, earning potential increases $10,000 – $15,000 a year, and the opportunity for advancement is enhanced,” Wolfe said.
“A GED opens doors to technical education, college or better job opportunities, and as we so often say in our department, we live to make a difference,” added Wolfe.
Those interested in taking GED classes are invited to attend one of the scheduled orientation sessions or call the Adult Education office at either the Decatur or Huntsville campus.
Decatur Campus orientation sessions:
- Every Monday and Tuesday at 7:45 am or 4:45 am
- Adult Education Building, Room 112
Huntsville Campus orientation sessions:
- Every Monday and Tuesday at 7:30 am or 4:30 pm
- Sparkman Building, Room 40
All GED classes and related services are free to the student. According to Wolfe, financial assistance is available to help defray the cost of taking the actual GED® test for students attending Adult Education classes. The Department of Postsecondary Education provides vouchers for both the GED® Ready practice tests and the official GED® tests for those who qualify.
