Calhoun Announces 2019 Graduation Activities; Calhoun Alum and Successful Business Leader Kim Lewis to Deliver Calhoun’s Commencement AddressMay 6, 2019
Calhoun Community College will conduct its 2019 graduation ceremonies on Friday, May 10th, 2019, beginning at 6:00 p.m. on the front lawn of the Math/Science/Administration (MSA) building on the Decatur campus. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will move to the Kelley Gymnasium, with live, televised overflow inside the MSA building. Additionally, for those unable to attend, the graduation ceremony will be streamed live; click here to view the live stream.
According to the Calhoun Admissions Office, more than 1900 students have qualified for graduation. Of that number, just over 400 students plan to participate in this year’s ceremony.
Speaker for this year’s graduation service is Kim Lewis, CEO of PROJECTXYZ, Inc., a company she started in 2002 with husband, Larry Lewis. Additionally, Kim is a proud graduate of Calhoun Community College, where she earned her associate’s degree in computer information systems.
Since the inception of PROJECTXYZ, the company has grown to include employees spanning multiple U.S. locations. The company, which provides customer support in engineering, logistics, information technology, and alternative energy, has become a forerunner in the industry. Having been recognized among the Inc. 5000 in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017; the recipient of the U.S. Chamber Blue Ribbon award in 2016; and recipient of the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year award in 2015, PROJECTXYZ has steadily garnered the attention of notable sources. In 2017, PROJECTXYZ was named the US Chamber of Commerce Women-Owned Business of the Year.
PROJECTXYZ’s success is further complimented by Lewis’ personal successes and civic involvement. Her business and community contributions have earned her board member positions for Calhoun Community College Foundation; Cummings Research Park; the Huntsville Hospital Foundation; Health Establishments at Local Schools (HEALS); the Huntsville Botanical Garden; the National Children’s Advocacy Center; and currently the 2019 Board Chair of the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce.
As an innovator, Lewis has the ability to see the big picture and a knack for preserving a positive attitude under difficult circumstances. These attributes have made her an invaluable asset to clients, the local community, and small businesses, as evidenced by her 2016 honoree recognition during the Women’s Economic Development Council and also being selected as one of the 2017 Women that Shape the State for Alabama.
With each accomplishment, professionally and personally, Kim Caudle Lewis continues to solidify her standing as a preeminent leader in business and the community.
Kim is the mother of two daughters, Sandy and Lela, and has seemingly found the formula to managing home life while becoming a trailblazer in her industry.
“Our Calhoun family is indeed excited to have Kim Lewis as our commencement speaker this year,” commented Dr. Joe Burke, interim president. “As an outstandingly successful alumnae of Calhoun, I know that Kim will bring a message of inspiration and motivation to our graduates,” Burke added.
Earlier in the day on Friday, the approximately 50 students graduating from Calhoun’s Associate Degree Nursing program will participate in the annual Candlelighting Ceremony. The ceremonies will begin at 1:00 p.m. in the Kelley Gymnasium.
This year’s graduation week events will kick off with the College’s 2019 GED graduation on Tuesday, May 7th at 6pm in the Kelley Gymnasium. Fifty-four students will be participating in the annual ceremony celebrating this important milestone. During the ceremony, selected members of the graduating class will share personal stories about their experiences in the GED program.
In the event the graduation moves inside, doors to the Kelley Gymnasium will open at 5:00pm. Due to limited seating, those admitted into the gym will need to have a ticket; a limited number of tickets have been provided to each graduate. Overflow seating will provided in the Math, Science and Administration (MSA) building, allowing for live televised viewing of the ceremonies.
