Calhoun Community College to host 2nd Annual Global Fest on April 6

March 29, 2019

Please join Calhoun’s International Club as they host the 2nd annual Global Fest, which is scheduled for Saturday, April 6, from 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. in the Grand Foyer (Sparkman building) of Calhoun’s Huntsville campus, 102 Wynn Dr., Huntsville, AL. The event is free and open to the public.

The festival was created not only to bring the community together, but also to celebrate the diversity and multiculturalism that exists at Calhoun. Currently, the college has an international student body of about 30%, and that number is growing each year. The goal of the festival is to combat discrimination and prejudice by recognizing and appreciating the value of the college’s inherent differences among faculty, staff and students.

Attendees will have an opportunity to experience live international music and cultural dance performances during an opening parade from each country. Children’s activities include henna tattoos, bouncy house and faux passports. Upon visiting the various country themed exhibition booths that highlight the country’s traditional clothing and artifacts, children will receive stamps in their faux passport booklets marking which countries they have visited. Food trucks and International cuisine will be available for purchase.
