Calhoun Community College to host EPIC Information SessionsJanuary 31, 2019
Decatur, AL – Calhoun Community College will host information sessions for its Excellence in Process Industrial Controls (EPIC) program on Tuesday, February 5, 2019, at 5:30pm on the Huntsville campus in the Math, Science, and CIS building, Multifunction Room and again on Thursday, February 7 at 5:30pm in the Advanced Technology Center (ATC) on the Decatur campus.
The EPIC program, which was patterned after Calhoun’s very successful FAME (Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education) program, combines an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Process Technology with two years of paid industry experience.
According to John Holley, dean for Technologies at Calhoun, this is the second year for the EPIC program. “Approximately 15 students are selected each year to be a part of this exclusive program,” Holley said. “Students offered the opportunity are selected by sponsor companies such as Daikin America, Toray Carbon Fibers, Ascend, and IVXP,” Holley added.
The EPIC program is ideal for students who have a high interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) fields and are interested in pursuing a career in the chemical manufacturing industry. Students interested in applying must test into credit-bearing math and English courses based on their ACT or Accuplacer score.
Once enrolled in the program, students begin working with their sponsor company during the summer prior to beginning coursework in the fall. Starting wages are very competitive, and students have the potential for performance-based raises and bonuses throughout the program. While not guaranteed, there is the option for sponsor companies to hire students upon graduation.
Students have the potential to graduate with an AAS degree in Advance Manufacturing and two years of industry experience, without any school-related debt.
