Calhoun Partners With Alabama DHR To Offer Summer Employment Opportunities For Local Youth
Calhoun Community College, in collaboration with the Alabama Community College System and the Department of Human Resources (DHR), is thrilled to announce exciting employment opportunities available through the DHR Summer Youth Program. From June 1 to July 31, participants can work up to 20 hours per week, with a competitive pay rate of up to $12 per hour.
These part-time positions span a range of roles, including clerical and technical duties, as well as offering support and involvement in event planning activities. Spread across Calhoun’s Huntsville and Decatur campuses, applicants can select from a variety of departments such as Business and CIS or Health Sciences Instructional Offices, Advising, Athletics, Career Services, Financial Aid, Recruiting, Testing Center, Welcome Center, and Admissions.
“This initiative is more than just a summer job; it’s an opportunity to instill a robust work ethic in our youth and nurture the development of skillsets crucial for their future career paths. The importance of professional growth resonates profoundly, even at the young age of 16,” commented Dr. Jimmy Hodges, Calhoun President.
Throughout the program, participants will work closely with dedicated supervisors, gaining hands-on experience that provides valuable insights into diverse job roles while fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation.
Dr. Patricia Wilson, Vice President of Student Services at Calhoun, highlights the numerous benefits of the Summer Youth Employment Program. “This initiative offers participants far more than just a paycheck; it’s a platform for personal growth and development,” she explains. “From learning time management skills to mastering teamwork dynamics, participants will cultivate essential life and job skills vital for navigating today’s competitive workforce.”
To qualify, applicants must meet specific criteria:
- Be aged between 16 to 24
- Meet DHR’s Family Assistance Income Guidelines
- Maintain a household income aligned with the 2024 Federal Poverty Guidelines.
