Calhoun Students Win Big at 2019 State-wide SkillsUSA Competition

Several students representing Calhoun Community College earned top honors recently during competition at the Alabama SkillsUSA Leadership conference in Birmingham.

The Calhoun winners were:

First Place (Gold):

Andrew McCoy- Hometown: Huntsville, AL
Architectural

Second Place (Silver)

Matthew Johnson – Hometown: Harvest, AL
Matthew Rolin – Hometown: Trinity, AL
Robotics Automation Technology

Nick Thomas – Hometown: Priceville, AL
Tanner Cooper – Hometown: Madison, AL
Additive Manufacturing

Third Place (Bronze)

Michael Moore – Hometown: Decatur, AL
Caleb Counter – Hometown: Harvest, AL

Calhoun’s first place winner, Andrew McCoy, will join other gold medal (first place) winners to compete at the 55th SkillsUSA Annual National Leadership and Skills Conference to be held June 25-28 in Louisville, Kentucky. More than 18,000 people — including students, teachers and business partners — are expected to participate in the weeklong event.

SkillsUSA is a national non-profit organization devoted to preparing students for careers in technical, skilled, and service occupations. It serves more than 300,000 high school, college, and professional members.
