Calhoun to Host Free Bookbag and School Supply Giveaway for Local Families
July 23, 2025
Calhoun Community College is once again demonstrating that its commitment to students and families extends well beyond the classroom. On Saturday, July 26, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., the college will host a Back-to-School Bookbag and Supply Giveaway at the Chasteen Student Services Center on the Decatur Campus (6250 US Hwy 31 N, Tanner, AL 35671). Items will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.
According to Jessica Jackson, Calhoun’s Recruitment Coordinator and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) Specialist, this marks the first time the college has hosted the event on its Decatur Campus, expanding a tradition previously held on the Huntsville Campus in partnership with Community Awareness for Youth (CAFY).
“This year, our ultimate goal is to ensure that families in Morgan and Limestone counties have access to the supplies they need for a successful school year,” said Jackson. “We want every student to feel seen, supported, and prepared when they walk into the classroom on day one.”
Each free bookbag has been generously provided by Calhoun’s Recruitment Department and filled with school supplies donated by a dedicated network of community partners, including Goodway Lodge #222, Huntsville Caring Connection, Khalid Willis, Kross Jackson of Cornerstone Caregiving Huntsville, and other local businesses and industry leaders. In addition to the giveaway, Calhoun viewbooks and Dual Enrollment information will be available on-site for students and families interested in exploring the college’s academic and career programs.
“Serving our community is part of who we are at Calhoun,” said Kassie Mathis, Vice President of Student Services. “We’re thrilled to bring this event to Decatur and meet families where they are.”
