Benefits of PTK

One of the main reasons students join Phi Theta Kappa is scholarships! There are several different kinds of scholarships available:

Chapter officer scholarships

These $1,000/semester scholarships are awarded to some chapter officers at Calhoun.

Automatic transfer scholarships for PTK members

These scholarships are sponsored by 4-year schools and vary in amount. A few samples include:

  • University of Alabama at Birmingham: $6,500 per year
  • Montevallo University: $6,000 per year
  • University of North Alabama: $4,000 per year
  • Mississippi State University: $4,000 per year

Scholarships

There are a number of competitive scholarships for which PTK members can apply every fall and spring. Scholarships are available those working toward associate’s degrees, transferring to a 4-year school, or entering the workforce after completing a certificate program. For more information on available scholarships, check out the PTK webpage.

Phi Theta Kappa offers leadership opportunities at the local, regional, and international levels. Members will receive invitations to apply and/or campaign for officer positions via their Calhoun email and the PTK Blackboard.

Competitions & Programs

Phi Theta Kappa offers numerous ways for members to grow as scholars, gain leadership experience, build fellowship with fellow members, and give back to their school and community.

Honors in Action Program

Honors in Action (HIA) is a yearly project that combines academic research, problem solving, and service or advocacy to address real-world challenges in our communities.

To learn more about Honors in Action, check out the official page on PTK’s website.

College Project

Our annual college project is PTK’s way of giving back to our school. Every year, our college project team meets with administrators to determine a project for our members to undertake that will further the school’s mission statement. Past college projects at Calhoun have focused on topics like mental health awareness for college students and student engagement.

PTK Contests

PTK headquarters sponsors two major contests every year:

Honors Case Study Challenge

This is a current events writing challenge with a cash prize for winners!

Nota Bena Literary Competition

Nota Bene, Latin for “note well,” is Phi Theta Kappa’s literary anthology. Members may submit entries for publication, as well as cash prizes.
