Alabama G.I. Dependent Scholarship (AGIDS)

All AGIDS versions cover the following charges:

  • Tuition (100 level and above Campus Held Courses)
  • Reserve Fee
  • Technology Fee
  • Required Text Books (for courses above 100 level)

AGIDS will not cover the following:

  • Tuition (Remedial Courses *Remedial Courses include courses below 100 level, i.e. ENG*094 or MTH*098)

  • Noncredit Courses
  • Uniforms
  • Tools
  • Facility Renewal Fee
  • Special Building Fee
  • Enhancement Fee
  • Wellness Fee
  • Remedial Course Text Books*

How to Apply:

Students who applied for this scholarship on or after July 31, 2017 are using the AGIDS ACT 2017-349.

Step 1.

Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Step 2.

Complete the FERPA form. Include AL Dept of Veterans Affairs as an agency to receive all records.

Step 3.

Apply for this scholarship online. Certificates are sent via email to the requested school upon approval.

Policies

If a student has grants or scholarships and AGIDS Act 2017-349, the grants or scholarship must be used before AGIDS ACT 2017-349 can be applied.

If the student does not have another type of financial aid, the student is required to pay the balance of fees and other charges not covered by the scholarship before the payment deadline. Otherwise, his/her schedule will be deleted.

If the student has not completed all requirements and spoken with Nikka Shaneyfelt, they will need to do so in order to have benefits added to their account.

Breakdown of Semester Usage:

# of credit hrs. enrolled – Semesters Used Per Term

1 – 5 hours: .25 semester

6 – 8 hours: .50 semester

9 – 11 hours: .75 semester

12 or more hours: 1.0 semester

Purchasing Books

Students who have AGIDS added to their accounts and do not have a balance are eligible for a book voucher, AGIDS program restrictions apply. An email will be sent to the student’s Calhoun email address before each charge period. The email will include the book voucher and instructions for completing and important information regarding the charge period.

Transferring Scholarship

When a student is ready to transfer their scholarship to another eligible school, they will need to complete a request for a supplemental certificate through the AGIDS portal. This process can take 30 days or more.
