How to Setup Your Veterans Benefits at Calhoun

At Calhoun, veterans, national guard/reservists, and dependents/survivors are eligible for VA education benefits.

Apply for VA Education Benefits

If you are new to VA Benefits or Calhoun

First, find out if you are eligible for benefits. Then, apply for benefits at the US Department of Government Affairs website. Please remember that it will take the Department of Veterans Affairs at least eight weeks to process your application and send you a Certificate of Eligibility.

If You Already Have Benefits

If you are switching to Calhoun or changing your program

Complete a Request for Change of Program or Place of Training (VA Form 22-1995) at the Veteran Affairs website for all Chapters.

Complete the VA Statement of Understanding

Complete the VA Statement of Understanding PDF and submit it to the VA Certifying Official on either campus.

Certify & Verify Your Benefits

Request VA Certification Each Semester

Students receiving VA education benefits must submit a VA Certification Request Form to the Veterans Affairs Office each semester after enrolling for classes in order to receive benefits. Any changes in enrollment must be reported to the VA Certifying Official by email immediately to avoid payment problems.

Verify Enrollment Every Month

Veterans and National Guard/Reservists (Chapter 33, Chapter 30, Chapter 1606) must verify their enrollment on the last day of each month on the US Department of Veteran’s Affairs website.

This nationally renowned scholarship program was created in 1947 in Alabama and provides scholarships to qualifying dependents of veterans.

How to Transfer Your Unused VA Benefits to Family Member(s)

If you are a service member eligible for the Post-9/11 GI Bill program, you can go to the milConnect website and select Transfer My Education Benefits to request a transfer of your DoD education benefits to your eligible dependents. You can transfer up to 36 months of unused benefits to your eligible immediate family members. If you have already used some of your benefits, you can transfer unused benefits to one (1) or more family members.
