Calhoun Community College’s Adult Education Program is here to help you achieve your goals—whether you’re preparing for the GED, learning English, building digital literacy, improving your math skills, or gaining essential workplace credentials. With a variety of free classes offered both in-person and online, we are committed to providing you with the tools, skills, and support you need to reach your next step in life, education, or career.

Our programs are flexible, designed for adults with busy lives, and focused on outcomes: employment, career advancement, or college transition. Many of our programs also include special benefits such as scholarship opportunities or job readiness certifications. WIOA – Out of School Youth Program

Are you ages 16 – 24? You may qualify for the WIOA – Out of School Youth Program! Earn your GED or High School Diploma, gain job skills and certification for a new career – FREE!

Earn Your GED

Prepare for and pass the GED test with free classes and testing support. Includes flexible schedules, onsite and online instruction, and access to the GED 4 Me! voucher program for free test attempts.

GED4ME!

Take your GED Practice test for FREE! For a limited time, you can schedule and take the GED Practice test for Free! If you pass all 4 sections, Alabama Adult Education will pay for you to take official GED EXAM!

English as a Second Language (ESL)

Free classes for adults to build English reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills for everyday life, work, and further education. Available for all proficiency levels.

Alabama Career Essentials (ACE)

A free course focused on employability and workforce readiness skills. Completion leads to the Alabama Certified Employee credential and includes a free 4-credit college course.

Digital Literacy & Microsoft Office Basics

Build confidence using computers and learn essential software tools including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Ideal for first-time users or those looking to boost their digital skills for the workplace.

Accuplacer, ACT, & ASVAB Prep

Free academic prep classes to help students improve test scores for college placement or military service. Strengthen your skills in math, reading, and writing.

Math Preparation & Career Math Skills

Targeted math training for GED success, career entrance, or workplace application. Includes real-world topics like fractions, conversions, and algebra in job-relevant contexts.

Non-Traditional High School Diploma Option (HSDO)

An alternative to the GED for those who earned high school credits but did not graduate. Reconnect with your education and earn a diploma from your high school.


How to Enroll

Enrollment is easy—and it’s free! All students (except ESL students) must attend two three-hour orientation sessions before starting classes.

There’s no need to register in advance. Just bring the required documents to the enrollment session of your choice.

What to Bring:

  • Valid Photo ID
  • Social Security Card or Tax ID Number
  • Proof of Residence
