Admission Requirements for CDL Program
Students entering the 160 Hour CDL Truck Driving Program must:
- Have a valid driver’s license
- Note: During the training program if you have an out-of-state license, you will need to visit the driver license office in your state to take your written test for the commercial driver permit & obtain your license upon completion of the program.
- Have a Social Security Card
- Be at least 18 years of age* for a Class A or B license.
Note: If you are age 18-20 Alabama allows you to apply for a Class A CDL Only
- No hazmat or passenger endorsements
- Prohibited from operating oversize or specially configured loads requiring a permit from ALDOT
- Limited to commercial driving within the State of Alabama only (intrastate)
- If you are ages 18-20 and obtaining a CDL, you must have an Alabama Driver’s License and Permit in order to test with Calhoun Community College. Out of state drivers must complete testing in home state if ages 18-20.
- Successfully pass a chain of custody drug screen and provide the report dated within 30 days of the first scheduled class day to the college by the deadline provided upon registration prior to the start of class
- Obtain a current Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) dated within 30 days of the first scheduled class day.
- Pass a DOT Physical and obtain a Medical Card dated within 30 days of the first sObtain a current Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) dated within 30 days of the first scheduled class day.
- Read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, to understand highway traffic signs and signals in the English language, to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records. cheduled class day.
