If you have always wanted to be a truck driver, or you are looking to transition to a new career after being in the workforce for a period of time, Calhoun Community College can provide the training and testing you need. The CDL Training Program provides driver license testing information and training for drivers who wish to have a commercial driver’s license and endorsements. This course will also provide information on federal requirements for the state’s standards for the licensing of commercial drivers.

Application Criteria

  • Must have an interest in pursuing a career as a Commercial Driver.
  • Must meet the income levels listed on the bottom of this page.
  • Must be available to attend all classes.
    • Mondays – Thursdays | 8:30 am – 4:00 pm
    • April 06 – April 30, 2026.
  • Must be able to attend weekly throughout the month of February 2026 to prepare for CDL permit testing.
  • Must be able to attend soft skills training in month of March 2026.
  • Must complete the following at a college-designated clinic (scholarship will pay the fees):
    • DOT Physical – DOT Chain of Custody Drug Screen
      • Results must be negative. Negative-dilute results will not be accepted.
      • Results cannot be dated more than 30 days before April 06, 2026.
  • Must provide below documents by deadline.
    • Motor Vehicle Report from the past three years. Results cannot be dated more than 30 days before April 06, 2026.
    • Provide copy of driver’s license and social security card
  • Students must have learner’s permit before second week of CDL class. Students will be reimbursed for permit fees and commercial license fees upon submission of receipts.
  • Once accepted, all students must agree to meet deadlines for the screening requirements.
  • Students who do not turn in the required documentation by the deadlines will not be accepted into the program.
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from Calhoun Community College, Decatur Campus, 6250 US Highway 31 North, Tanner, AL 35671.
  • Must have a working telephone
