Welcome to Warhawk Workshops at Calhoun Community College

At Calhoun Community College, we believe that learning doesn’t stop at graduation—it’s a lifelong journey of curiosity, creativity, and connection. That’s why we are proud to open our doors to the community through our brand-new Warhawk Workshops program!

Warhawk Workshops are non-credit courses designed to encourage forever learning. Whether you’ve always wanted to learn a new dance style, explore a different language, pick up a creative art, or sharpen your professional skills, these classes provide the perfect space to try something new in a fun, engaging, and supportive environment.

Here at Calhoun, we invite the community to come together to discover, create, and enjoy. Our workshops are all about excitement and enrichment—because learning should be just as enjoyable as it is useful. From painting to public speaking, from wellness to world languages, there is something for every interest and every stage of life.

Fire Pit Welding Workshop

Create your own fire pit while learning the fundamentals of welding! Taught by our very own Zeb Ferguson and Ben Maples

Cookie Decorating

Learn to decorate decadent cookies from our local cookie shops! In this hands-on workshop, you’ll discover the basics of icing consistency, outlining, flooding, and adding beautiful finishing details to your cookies. You’ll practice essential piping techniques, experiment with seasonal and themed designs, and leave with decorated cookies to share (if you don’t eat them first!). No prior baking or decorating experience is required—this class is perfect for beginners and hobbyists alike. All supplies are provided, and you’ll walk away with the confidence to create your own edible works of art at home.

Computer and Smart Devices Course

Become more familiar with your own devices! Learn the basics of computer and smart device usage. In this beginner-friendly course, you’ll practice essential skills such as navigating the internet, setting up email, downloading apps, and adjusting common settings. This class focuses on building confidence so you can use your laptop, tablet, or smartphone with ease. You’ll also learn practical tips for staying safe online, managing passwords, and avoiding common scams. Each session includes hands-on practice and patient instruction in a supportive environment. By the end of the course, you’ll be more comfortable with everyday technology and better equipped to use your devices for communication, work, and entertainment.

Latin Dance

Learn the fundamentals of Latin dance styles! This lively workshop introduces you to the popular dance of salsa, focusing on rhythm, basic steps, and partner work. This class emphasizes confidence, coordination, and expression while creating a fun, social atmosphere. Whether you’re dancing solo or with a partner, you’ll gain skills you can take straight to the dance floor. No prior dance experience is required—just bring comfortable shoes, energy, and a willingness to move. By the end of the course, you’ll be ready to enjoy Latin dance at weddings, social gatherings, or even local dance nights!

Holiday Painting

Paint a festive masterpiece while enjoying good company in a cheerful, creative atmosphere! In this seasonal workshop, you’ll learn basic painting techniques such as blending, shading, and brushwork while creating holiday-inspired artwork—think snowy landscapes, twinkling ornaments, or cozy winter scenes. The focus is on fun and creativity, not perfection, so all skill levels are welcome. Step-by-step guidance makes it easy for beginners to follow along, while experienced painters can add their own unique touches. All supplies are provided, and you’ll leave with a hand-painted canvas that makes a perfect holiday keepsake or gift. Bring a friend, a family member, or simply your holiday spirit, and let’s celebrate the season through art!

Line Dancing

Learn the fundamentals of today’s line dances! This upbeat class introduces you to classic favorites and modern routines set to country, pop, and R&B hits. You’ll focus on rhythm, easy-to-follow footwork, and building confidence on the dance floor. No partner is required—line dancing is all about group fun and social energy. Each session breaks down steps at a comfortable pace, so beginners feel right at home while experienced dancers can sharpen their moves. By the end of the course, you’ll be ready to join in at weddings, parties, and local dance nights with style and confidence!

Dancing with the Stars!

Learn a partnered dance over the course of the class and compete for the “title” as your final! In this fun and energetic series, you and your partner will be introduced to ballroom and showcase-style dances such as the foxtrot, waltz, salsa, or swing. Each week builds on the previous lesson, helping you develop timing, coordination, and confidence as a team. The class emphasizes performance quality as well as technique, preparing you for a friendly competition showcase at the end of the course. No previous dance experience is required—just a willingness to learn, laugh, and shine on the dance floor. Whether you’re in it for the fun, the fitness, or the thrill of performance, this class is a chance to step into the spotlight!

Improv Acting Class

Dive into the playful world of improvisational comedy in a supportive and low-pressure environment. In this class, you’ll explore the foundations of improv—quick thinking, listening, collaboration, and saying “yes, and” to new ideas. The focus is on building confidence while having fun through games, short scenes, and group exercises. You’ll discover how to create characters on the spot, tell stories without a script, and find humor in everyday situations. No prior acting experience is necessary—just bring your creativity and a willingness to laugh at yourself. By the end of the course, you’ll not only sharpen your performance skills but also strengthen communication, teamwork, and spontaneity—skills that are useful both on stage and in everyday life.

Community Theater Acting

Be a part of a play! Learn stage performance and acting techniques in live showcases. This immersive course introduces you to the essentials of theatre, including character development, voice projection, movement, and ensemble work. The emphasis is on teamwork, creativity, and the joy of bringing a story to life on stage. Participants will rehearse scenes, monologues, and group pieces, culminating in a live performance for family, friends, and the community. No previous theatre experience is required—just enthusiasm and a willingness to collaborate. By the end of the class, you’ll not only have stage experience but also increased confidence, stronger communication skills, and lasting memories of working together to create something special.

Pottery for Beginners

Learn the fundamentals of working with clay through hands-on activities! This introductory course guides you through techniques such as hand-building, coiling, slab construction, and an introduction to the pottery wheel. You’ll also explore surface design, glazing, and finishing to bring your creations to life. No prior experience is necessary—just a willingness to get a little messy and have fun. Each week you’ll complete small projects such as bowls, mugs, or decorative pieces, while learning the skills to continue experimenting on your own. All materials and kiln firings are included, and by the end of the course, you’ll have a collection of unique, handmade works of art to take home.

Bob Ross Painting

Paint like Bob Ross using his famous wet-on-wet painting methods and take home your masterpiece! In this step-by-step workshop, you’ll learn how to create landscapes filled with “happy little trees,” clouds, and mountains using Bob Ross’s signature style. The focus is on making painting accessible and fun for everyone—no prior experience needed. You’ll discover blending techniques, brush strokes, and color mixing that bring scenes to life in just one sitting. Each student will complete a finished canvas to proudly display at home, and you’ll gain the confidence to keep painting on your own. All supplies are included—just bring your creativity and a willingness to relax and enjoy the process.

Beginner Photography

Discover the art of photography while learning how to confidently use your camera. This introductory class covers the essentials—exposure, lighting, composition, and how to get the most out of your camera’s settings, whether you’re using a DSLR, mirrorless, or even a smartphone. You’ll practice through hands-on assignments that encourage creativity and help you capture portraits, landscapes, and everyday moments with a fresh perspective. The class also introduces editing basics so you can polish your photos and share them with confidence. No prior experience is required—just bring your camera (or phone), curiosity, and a desire to see the world through a new lens. By the end of the course, you’ll have both the skills and inspiration to continue developing your photography hobby.

Social/Networking Courses

Conversational Mandarin

Learn practical Mandarin phrases and conversation skills for social and travel situations. In this beginner-friendly course, you’ll practice everyday vocabulary, greetings, and polite expressions while gaining confidence in speaking with native Mandarin speakers. This class emphasizes interactive activities, role-playing, and cultural insights to make learning both fun and functional. You’ll explore common scenarios such as ordering in restaurants, navigating transportation, and introducing yourself in social settings. No prior language experience is required, and all materials are provided—just bring your curiosity and enthusiasm. By the end of the course, you’ll have a foundation in Mandarin that you can use for travel, work, or personal enrichment.

Conversational Spanish

Learn practical Spanish phrases and conversation skills for social and travel situations.
