Alabama EMS Region One (AERO)

Serving Colbert, Cullman, DeKalb, Franklin, Jackson, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Marshall and Morgan Counties.

AERO was established in 2006 to provide EMS support for eleven counties of North Alabama through an Alabama Department of Public Health, Office of EMS grant. Education and Pre-hospital Healthcare System oversight are two of AERO’s primary support functions.

A partnership with Calhoun Community College.

Capnography Workshop

This two-hour workshop provides practical, level-appropriate education for EMTs, Advanced EMTs, and Paramedics, focusing on real-world prehospital decision-making. The course blends concise didactic content with interactive case reviews to reinforce critical thinking across certification levels. Emphasis is placed on improving patient assessment, treatment prioritization, and team-based performance in dynamic EMS environments.

Participants may attend in-person at Huntsville Public Safety Training Facility or via Microsoft Teams to receive continuing education credit. Lunch will be provided prior to the skills lap at 12:00 p.m. 

Protocol Update Education

Our 11th edition protocol updates course is now live and can be accessed here.

A completion certificate will be automatically sent to the email provided upon successful completion of the assessment at the end of the course. Should you or any of your employees have any issues receiving this certificate following completion of the course, please email AERO@calhoun.edu & we will be happy to assist you.

If you choose to offer in-person protocol training at your agency instead, you may complete the CME1 form as usual to receive a course approval number & submit all participation rosters to AERO via email following completion of the training.

Advanced EMT Monitoring Course

Materials are available to agency administrators & training officers in offering cardiology courses for advanced EMTs. For a copy of these materials, please email AERO@calhoun.edu. Please submit copies of all training rosters to AERO following completion of the course. Medical director approval is required prior to AEMTs utilizing cardiac monitoring as outlined in the AEMT scope of practice.

Jamie Stoddard Memorial

Jamie Stoddard was a paramedic and alumni of Calhoun Community College’s EMS Program.

A memorial fund is available to honor Jamie Stoddard and his contribution to the field of EMS in North Alabama. This fund will be used to assist future EMSPs. If you would like to make a donation in memory of Jamie, follow the instructions below:
