Study at the ACA

Calhoun’s arts programs are located in the Alabama Center for the Arts (ACA) in beautiful downtown Decatur, which feels like a private art college campus. Students are part of a small, personal, and creative arts community, while studying in beautiful, state-of-the-art facilities that inspire creativity.

About Calhoun’s Music Program

Recognized as a premier music program among two-year colleges in Alabama, many opportunities are available to Calhoun students to attend professional performances of operas, musicals, ballets, recitals, and concerts during each academic year. Students perform each semester in student recitals and present a sophomore recital to complete their studies.
Voice or an instrument is elected by the student as an applied major. An audition will be held. Piano is required for all who are not keyboard majors. A recital in the applied major is required at the end of the sophomore year. Students are required to complete four credits of music performance electives and/or secondary applied voice or instrument. A faculty advisor should be consulted before these courses are scheduled.

Scholarships Available

Scholarships for voice, piano, guitar, and other instruments are available, with auditions held each March. These scholarships, such as the Frances P. Moss and Joan A. Goree scholarships, support aspiring vocalists and choral conductors.

Athens State Fine Arts Scholarship

If you have a 2.5 GPA and transfer from Calhoun Community College to Athens State, apply for this scholarship which pays the tuition for one class.

Performance Opportunities

Students can attend and perform in various professional performances, including operas, ballets, and concerts. Each semester culminates in recitals, with a required sophomore recital for music majors.
