Applying to the Program
What are the steps and requirements to apply to the Calhoun Community College Nursing Program?
- Apply to and be unconditionally admitted to the college. Learn more.
- An unencumbered or unrestricted license as a:
- Practical Nurse (issued by State of Alabama or multistate licensure from another state), or
- Paramedic issued by the State of Alabama.
- Submit a complete online Bridge to RN Program Application by August 31st. (Link to application is below)
- Complete the HESI Admission Assessment (HESI A2) by August 31st.
- No minimum exam score is required.
- The Calhoun Testing Center offers the HESI A2 with same-day results. Learn more about the HESI.
- All exams completed in the Calhoun Testing Center will be reported to the nursing department on your behalf. You will not need to submit your results to the nursing department.
- The HESI A2 exam can be taken only once per application cycle.
- A minimum 2.5 GPA on the prerequisite courses (20 hours). All prerequisite courses must be completed prior to application deadline.
- MTH 100 Intermediate College Algebra (or higher) 3 hours
- ENG 101 English Composition 3 hours
- BIO 201 Human Anatomy & Physiology I 4 hours
- BIO 202 Human Anatomy & Physiology II 4 hours
- PSY 210 Human Growth & Development 3 hours
- SPH 106 or SPH 107 Speech 3 hours
- A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA at a current, native institution or cumulative 2.0 at the institution from which the student is transferring

Applicants are evaluated and ranked based on the selection criteria of the published application process.
There is no expiration date on general education courses (ENG, BIO, MTH).

Transcripts
Where do I submit my transcripts?
Transcripts need to be sent to the Office of Admissions and Records. Do not submit transcripts to the nursing office.
When do I need to have my transcripts submitted?
Transcripts should be submitted at least one month before the application deadline to guarantee your coursework will be evaluated by the application deadline. Transcripts received less than month before the deadline are not guaranteed to be evaluated in time to be used in the application evaluation for the nursing program.
I’ve attended several schools. Can I just submit transcripts from the last school I attended?
No – Transcripts must be received from ALL schools attended by the application deadline to meet the minimum requirements for acceptance.
I have a degree already. Which transcripts do I need to submit?
Transcripts must be received from ALL schools attended, including graduate and undergraduate degrees.
There is a hold on my transcript at a previous school. Can I submit an unofficial transcript?
No, official transcripts must be submitted from all schools attended.
My name is different on my transcripts from another school. What do I need to do?
When you apply to the college, you should include any aliases or alternate names. If the name on your transcript is different from any of those names listed, contact Admissions and Records for information on how to update your account to include this name.

How do I view my HESI A2 score on MyCalhoun?
- Go to calhoun.edu
- Click on MyCalhoun at the top of our home page.
- Sign into MyCalhoun with your A-Number & Password
- Select Banner Self Service.
- Sign in with your Calhoun email address & MyCalhoun password
- Select the Student tab
- Select the Student Landing Page, then choose Student Profile
- Select Prior Education and Testing
What is the minimum test score I must have to be eligible for the program?
Applicants must submit a valid HESI A2 taken at Calhoun within the past 3 years. There is no minimum score required for the HESI A2.
Where can I take the HESI A2?
The exam is offered at the testing centers on both Decatur and Huntsville campuses. You may take the HESI A2 by making your testing center appointment here:
What happens if I have not taken the HESI A2?
Applicants who have not taken HESI A2 will not be considered for admission into the program. This is a requirement for all applicants.
Core and Program Courses
What courses do I have to have completed to be eligible for the program?
You must have completed the following courses to be unconditionally admitted to the program:
- BIO 201: Anatomy & Physiology I,
- BIO 202: Anatomy & Physiology II,
- ENG 101: English Composition,
- MTH 100: Intermediate College Algebra or higher-level math,
- PSY 210: Human Growth & Development, and
- Speech elective (3 credit hours)
Do I have to complete all my prerequisite courses before I apply?
No. You may be granted conditional admission based on seats available if you are currently enrolled in the prerequisite courses.
What is the minimum letter grade I must have for the courses to count toward completing the program requirements?
All courses must be completed with a grade of “C” or higher to apply toward your degree.
If I am taking a prerequisite course at the same time I apply, will it count toward the application?
- If you are enrolled in Summer courses at Calhoun Community College, they will apply toward your application score. However, any transfer courses must be complete and showing on your Calhoun Community College unofficial transcript by the application deadline (August 31st) to be considered.
- Courses in progress (Fall Semester) at the time of the deadline will not count toward your application points total. However, you may be granted conditional admission based on seats available if you are currently enrolled in the prerequisite courses.
If I have not completed all the general education courses, when will I need to take the courses?
The program is designed to be completed in three semesters. All prerequisite courses must be completed prior to enrollment in the program. Any co-requisite courses not completed at the time of admission must be completed with a grade of “C” or higher during or before the semester it is listed in the curriculum plan.
How do I know if my transcript has been processed?
Log in to your MyCalhoun account to view your unofficial transcript. All grades transferred from previous institutions will be found there. It is the applicant’s responsibility to make certain all relevant coursework is listed on the CCC transcript. No points will be awarded if the courses and grades are not listed on the CCC transcript.
Why is there a “T” in front of some of my grades?
Grades from other schools will show as “TA,” “TB,” “TC,” etc. This signifies that the grade is a transfer course.
What if there is only a “T” and no letter grade on my transcript?
You will need to contact Admissions and Records to have the proper grade assigned to the course. Grades of only “T” will not be used to calculate your GPA or provide points for your application. It is each student’s responsibility to make sure all required coursework is showing on their unofficial Calhoun transcript by the application deadline.
One of the grades on my Calhoun transcript is wrong. What do I need to do?
Contact the Office of Admissions and Records to have the grade corrected.
GPA
What is the grade point average (GPA) requirement for the program?
Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 based on the core courses:
- BIO 201: Anatomy & Physiology I,
- BIO 202: Anatomy & Physiology II,
- ENG 101: English Composition,
- MTH 100: Intermediate College Algebra or higher-level math,
- PSY 210: Human Growth & Development, and
- Speech elective (3 credit hours)
Additionally, applicants must have a 2.0 cumulative GPA at their current, native, or transferring institution.
How is my GPA calculated if I have not taken any or all of the core courses?
If you have not taken all the core courses, your GPA will be calculated based on those you have taken, whether it be one, two, or more of the core courses. The core courses must be completed before you are eligible for unconditional admission.
How is AP credit factored into my GPA?
AP credit is not factored into the GPA, but it is awarded points as if it were a “B”. You will need to ensure Admissions and Records has a copy of your exam results to award credit.
