RN Bridge Program Application

Know Before You Start

Before you start, familiarize yourself with the degree programs available in Calhoun’s Nursing Program. All of our students are enrolled as ‘Nursing Education’ students and can earn stackable certifications as they complete semesters of the program. Be sure to schedule an appointment for pre-nursing advising at advising@calhoun.edu before you start the nursing program application.

 If you are not a current Calhoun Community College student, you should submit a Calhoun Community College Application for Admission and request that transcripts from ALL previously attended institutions be forwarded to CCC Admissions and Records prior to the published program deadlines. Any applications to Calhoun Admissions or transcripts submitted after the published program deadline will not qualify for the Nursing program application. 

Bridge to RN Application will be open July 1st until August 31st

Calhoun Community College Nursing Program applicants must meet the following criteria to be considered for the Bridge to Nursing program:

Steps and Requirements for Admission to RN Bridge Program

  • Apply to and be unconditionally admitted to the college. Learn more.
  • An unencumbered or unrestricted license as a:
    • Practical Nurse (issued by State of Alabama or multistate licensure from another state), or
    • Paramedic issued by the State of Alabama.
  • Submit a complete online Bridge to RN Program Application by August 31st. (Link to application is below)
  • Complete the HESI Admission Assessment (HESI A2) by August 31st.
    • No minimum exam score is required.
    • The Calhoun Testing Center offers the HESI A2 with same-day results. Learn more about the HESI.
    • All exams completed in the Calhoun Testing Center will be reported to the nursing department on your behalf.
  • A minimum 2.5 GPA on the prerequisite courses (20 hours, must be completed prior to application)
    • MTH 100 Intermediate College Algebra (or higher) 3 hours
    • ENG 101 English Composition 3 hours
    • BIO 201 Human Anatomy & Physiology I 4 hours
    • BIO 202 Human Anatomy & Physiology II 4 hours
    • PSY 210 Human Growth & Development 3 hours
    • SPH 106 or SPH 107 Speech 3 hours
  • A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA at a current, native institution or cumulative 2.0 at the institution from which the student is transferring
  • Meet the Minimum Eligibility Criteria for the Nursing Program

Applicants are evaluated and ranked based on the selection criteria of the published application process.

There is no expiration date on general education courses (ENG, BIO, MTH).

Letter of Good Standing

If you have attended another nursing program prior to applying to our program, the nursing program director at your prior college must provide a letter of Good Standing on your behalf. It is your responsibility to contact your prior college nursing program director and request the letter of Good Standing.

Apply to the RN Bridge Nursing Program

Before you start your application to the nursing program:

  • Have your license information ready, either your:
    • Practical Nursing license (single state licensure issued by Alabama or unencumbered LPN MSL with privileges in Alabama);
    • OR Alabama Paramedic licensure.
  • Access to your A#@alabama.edu email address and password;
  • Dates of attendance in any other nursing program available (if applicable).
    • If you did not successfully complete another registered nursing program prior to applying to our program, the nursing program director at your prior college must provide a letter of Good Standing on your behalf. It is your responsibility to contact your prior college nursing program director and request the letter of Good Standing.

When you finish the online application, you will receive an on-screen notice that you have successfully applied. HOWEVER, this does not mean that your application materials are complete. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure they have submitted all necessary application materials to Calhoun Community College.

Selection Criteria for Nursing Programs

  • HESI A2 score, taken at Calhoun Testing Center (Huntsville or Decatur Campus).
    • Only one test per application cycle is allowed.
    • Scores are valid for 3 years.
  • Points from Nursing required college core courses (ENG 101, MTH 100 or higher, BIO 201 and BIO 202)
  • Points for grades are as follows: A=3 points, B=2 points and C=0 points
  • Additional 10 points awarded as determined by the individual college policy and procedure.
