The Alabama F.A.M.E. Advanced Manufacturing Technician Program (AMT) blends classroom instruction with on-site experience at the world-class manufacturing facilities in North Alabama. The AMT Program includes a two-year associate degree that combines cutting-edge curriculum, paid working experience, along with learning highly sought-after business principles and best practices of a world class manufacturer.

Students can earn as much as $33,500 while attending college, which reduces the need for student loans and prepares students for a successful career. In fact, the majority of AMT graduates have completed the program with no education debt. In addition, the student will have two years of related work experience to build their resume. The AMT program prepares graduates to excel in the job market and/or to pursue a four-year degree.

Today’s high standards of manufacturing excellence emphasize safety and quality and is reinforced daily with associates and management teams. The AMT program begins with a semester of extensive safety training, resulting in an OSHA 10 certification. Safety awareness and risk reduction is also integrated into all aspects of operations and training at each of the sponsor manufacturing companies.

Students work three (eight hour) days a week at the sponsor company starting at $13.55 per hour. Raises are given based on grades and performance evaluations while working at the company. By the end of the two-year college phase, students may be earning as much as $14.80 per hour. Students must maintain a “C” or higher in all classes to be retained in this selective program. Four times during the course of the program, students may receive four (4) tuition bonuses worth up to $500 each time (up to $2,000 total).

• Students attend classes two days a week and work three days a week.
• Once accepted into the program, a Calhoun advisor will register students each semester.
• The FAME curriculum is five semesters (Fall, Spring, Summer, Fall and Spring).
• Students start working the summer prior to Fall semester at their sponsor company full-time. Once classes begin, students’ hours will cut back to part-time.
• Technical classes are held in the AMC (Advanced Manufacturing Center) in the Center of Applied Technology building on the Decatur campus.
• General classes are held on the Decatur campus or online.
