“I chose to apply for the F.A.M.E. program because it had a two-year co-op component with a well-known company, plus an associate’s degree.”

“My co-op provided mentors for each area of the plant that work with me and help develop skills for the maintenance field.”

“My advice to students is to try to learn something new every day at work and don’t become stagnant.”

“I wanted to be able to work while I was going to school.”

Q: What advice would you give to a student interested in cooperative learning?

“I would say that cooperative learning is a really good experience, but you have to commit yourself to the process because it takes a large chunk of your time. You have to be there every day on time prepared to work and learn.”

“It has given me real work experience that can transfer to any company in the field.”

“I have always enjoyed working with my hands, so when I heard about the F.A.M.E. program and the hands on learning they offered at school and on the job, I knew I had to apply.”

Q: How has your co-op prepared you for a career in your field?

“Co-op has prepared me for a career in my field, because I get to use what I learn at school, and apply in a real-world situation. It also gives me the knowledge and experience I need to hit the ground running and be a step above others without the work experience.”

Q: What advice would you give to a student interested in cooperative learning?

“Do not be afraid to sign up, even if you are not sure if that is what you want to do. It will give you a glimpse into that field and help you make a decision on if that path is right for you.”

“I chose this program because I have always loved working with my hands and fixing things.”

Q: What advice would you give to a student interested in cooperative learning?

“Do your research about maintenance, you will work but it will be fun. If you get into the program, always show initiative at work and at school. If you do this, you employer will notice and will probably want to hire you after you graduate.”

Q: In your opinion, what was the most beneficial part of being a co-op student?

“Learning something at school and then the next day actually using it in a plant environment. The companies in the program are very good at working with you and helping you “apply as you learn”.”

“Take extreme ownership. You alone are responsible for your learning. Don’t allow for any excuses.”
