Welcome to Service Learning at Calhoun Community College!

At Calhoun Community College, we understand that the best way to prepare for your future career is by gaining hands-on experience while you’re still in school. That’s why we’ve included service learning as one of our many work-based learning opportunities.

To participate in service learning, you will complete the following steps:

  • Complete a Service Learning Application.
  • Submit your General Release and Waiver of Liability. List Nicole Ricketts (nicole.ricketts@calhoun.edu) as your sponsor for the activity.
  • Reach out to your volunteer agency of choice to set up your volunteer schedule.
  • Print a copy of the student timesheet, and have your volunteer supervisor complete this timesheet after each volunteer session.
  • Submit your timesheet using the Timesheet Submission and Activity Feedback Form.

Guidelines:

  • Complete the amount of hours required by your instructor. Think of this assignment as a regular job. Arrive on time prepared to work. Come appropriately dressed. If you have a problem and cannot get to work, notify your volunteer supervisor as soon as possible. This is a commitment and these agencies depend on you!
  • Transportation is the responsibility of the student. Please be sure you make arrangements for traveling to and from your service learning agency.
  • Confidentiality is an important requirement for workers in many service agencies. Remember to observe this rule while at the work site as well as when you discuss activities in class or with friends.
