Program Details

  • 140 Classroom Hours + an Optional Clinical Externship
  • Class size is limited to 20 participants

The Clinical Medical Assistant Program is designed for students who want to prepare for an exciting, challenging, and rewarding career in healthcare.  This program trains students to assist physicians by performing functions related to the clinical responsibilities of a medical office.  Topics include preparing patients for examination and treatment, routine laboratory procedures, diagnostic testing, technical aspects of phlebotomy, and the cardiac life cycle.  Students will review important topics including phlebotomy, pharmacology, the proper use and administration of medications, taking and documenting vital signs, cardiology including proper lead placements (EKG), professional workplace behavior, ethics, and the legal aspects of healthcare. This program includes 140 hours of classroom lecture and hands-on labs and an optional clinical externship opportunity at a local healthcare provider.

Note:  Upon successful completion of this program, students will have the opportunity to sit for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) national examination.

Clinical Externship:

Upon successful completion of the Clinical Medical Assistant Program, students are eligible to participate in a 160-hour clinical externship with a local healthcare provider.  Students electing to participate in the externship may be asked to submit to a thorough background check, drug screening, and meet other requirements.  Students will be responsible for paying any screening fees, background check fees, and other requirements associated with the externship.

Option #1 – Self-directed online classes

Students may start the self-directed online class at any time and have full access to the website. E-Textbooks are included in the fee. Students have up to 6 months to complete the program. No on-campus attendance required for this program. Students are eligible to participate in the optional externship after successfully completing the program

Option #2 – On-Line Class with Live Instruction

Programs will be held on-line with live, interactive instruction. Students must have access to a computer/tablet, etc. with audio and visual capabilities. Hands-on labs will be held on campus during class times and scheduled by the instructor.

  • Days:  Mondays, Wednesdays, & Thursdays
  • Times:  9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
  • Location: Huntsville Campus
  • Costs:  $2,399 (includes all textbooks and optional externship)
  • Program Fee does not include the cost of the NHA Clinical Medical Assistant National Certification Exam – $155.
  • NHA Certification Exam is proctored at Calhoun Community College.
  • *Eligible for WIOA Funding

Night Program

  • Dates: June 22 – September 23, 2021
  • Days:  Tuesday and Thursday nights, Some Saturdays
  • Times: 6:00 pm – 9:30 pm Tuesday and Thursday, Saturdays 9:00 am – 4:30 pm on June 26, July 17, July 31, August 14, August 28, and September 18, 2021
  • Location: Decatur Campus
  • Costs:  $2,399 (includes all textbooks and optional externship)
  • Program Fee does not include the cost of NHA Clinical Medical Assistant National Certification Exam – $155.
  • NHA Certification Exam is proctored at Calhoun Community College.
  • *Eligible for WIOA Funding
  • Education Requirements:  Students must have a High School diploma or equivalent.
