Program Details

  • 140 Classroom Hours + an Optional Clinical Externship
  • Class size is limited to 20 participants

The Clinical Medical Assistant Program is designed for students who want to prepare for an exciting, challenging and rewarding career in healthcare.  This program trains students to assist physicians by performing functions related to the clinical responsibilities of a medical office.  Topics include preparing patients for examination and treatment, routine laboratory procedures, diagnostic testing, technical aspects of phlebotomy and the cardiac life cycle.  Students will review important topics including phlebotomy, pharmacology, the proper use and administration of medications, taking and documenting vital signs, cardiology including proper lead placements (EKG), a professional workplace behavior, ethics and the legal aspects of healthcare. This program includes 140 hours of classroom lecture and hands on labs and an optional clinical externship opportunity at a local healthcare provider.

Note:  Upon successful completion of this program, students will have the opportunity to sit for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) national examination.

Clinical Externship:

Upon successful completion of the Clinical Medical Assistant Program, students are eligible to participate in a 160-hour clinical exernship with a local healthcare provider.  Students electing to participate in the externship may be asked to submit to a thorough background check, drug screening and meet other requirements.  Students will be responsible for paying any screening fees, background check fees, and other requirements associated with the externship.

Option #1 – Self-directed on line classes

Students may start the self-directed on line class at any time and have full access to the website. Textbooks are mailed to the student’s registration address and students have up to 6 months to complete the program. No on-campus attendance required for this program. Students are eligible to participate in the optional externship after successfully completing the program

Option #2 – Live, interactive on line classes

Students will attend scheduled classes and have live, interactive class led by an instructor. Attendance is mandatory during the times scheduled. Hands on labs will be held on campus. Dates for hands on labs will be scheduled by the instructor during regular class times. Students are eligible to participate in the optional externship after successfully completing the program.

  • Dates:  October 5, 2020 – January 14, 2021
  • Days:  Mondays, Wednesdays, & Thursdays
  • Times:  9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
  • Location: Theory will be on line and hands on portion of class will be held at the Huntsville campus
  • Costs:  $2,399 (includes all textbooks and optional externship)
  • Program Fee does not include cost of NHA Clinical Medical Assistant National Certification Exam – $155.
  • NHA Certification Exam is proctored at Calhoun Community College.
  • *Eligible for WIOA Funding

Night Program

Duration: 140 hours + an Optional 160- hour Clinical Externship

  • Externship Hours: 160 hours (included in fee)
  • Dates: October 6, 2020 – January 28, 20201 – includes some Saturdays
  • Days:  Tuesday and Thursday nights, Some Saturdays
  • Times: 6:00 pm – 9:30 pm Tuesday and Thursday, Saturdays 9:00 am – 4:30 pm on October 17, October 31, November 14, December 5, 2020, January 16, and January 23, 2021
  • Location: Theory will be on line and hands on portion of class will be held at the Decatur campus
  • Costs:  $2,399 (includes all textbooks and optional externship)
  • Program Fee does not include cost of NHA Clinical Medical Assistant National Certification Exam – $155.
  • NHA Certification Exam is proctored at Calhoun Community College.
  • *Eligible for WIOA Funding
  • Education Requirements:  Students must have a High School diploma or equivalent.

All refund requests for the Fall classes must be received in writing by the close of business on September 18, 2020.
