Chief Tyler Roden Bio

Tyler Roden, a third-generation law enforcement officer, began his career in 1986 as a deputy sheriff with the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office. He attended the Northeast Alabama Policy Academy at Jacksonville State University and received his APOST certification in February 1987. While as a deputy sheriff, Tyler served as a patrol deputy and criminal investigator.

Tyler later also served as a Child Sexual Abuse Investigator with the Cullman County District Attorney’s Office before being elected as Sheriff of Cullman County in 1994 and served in that capacity until 2011.

During his tenure as sheriff, he attended the F.B.I. National Academy and graduated as part of the 183rd Session. After leaving office in 2011, he served abroad as a Law Enforcement Professional for L3 Communications in Afghanistan alongside the U.S. Army 10th Mountain Division. Upon returning home, he accepted a position as Chief of Police at Wallace State Community College. After holding this position for 11 years, he was chosen as the new Chief of Police at Calhoun Community College in January of 2023. Chief Roden has a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice from Columbia Southern. He is married to Sonja and they have two children, Mary Grace and Sam.
