Free Class B CDL Training

Now is the perfect time to consider truck driving as a career! If you have always wanted to be a truck driver, or you are looking to transition to a new career after being in the workforce for a period of time, Calhoun Community College can provide the training and testing you need. The CDL Training class provides driver license testing information and training for drivers who wish to have a commercial driver’s license (CDL – Class B) and endorsements. This course will also provide information on federal requirements for the state’s standards for the licensing of commercial drivers.

  • Experienced instructor with 18 years of extensive training in CDL
  • Hands-on training in a team environment
  • Automatic vehicles for a Class B
  • Certificate of completion and verification provided

Admission Requirements

Admissions requirements for entry into the Free CDL B Truck Driving training program:

  1. Be at least 18 years of age* for a Class B license
  2. Possess a good driving record and
  3. Be able to successfully pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examination and a DOT controlled substance test (chain of custody drug screen)
  4. Obtain a class B Learner’s Permit
  5. Complete online CDL theory

The following documents are required before you begin training:

  1. Driver’s License
  2. Class B Learner’s Permit
  3. Social Security Card
  4. Motor Vehicle Report
  5. DOT Physical
  6. Medical Examiner’s Certificate
  7. Chain of Custody Drug Screen Results

Books and other out-of-pocket expenses are not included in the tuition.

Note: The chain of custody drug screen, and motor vehicle report (MVR) must be dated within 30 days of the first scheduled class day.

*Effective February 7, 2020, Alabama allows individuals ages 18-20 to apply for a Class A CDL:

  1. No hazmat or passenger endorsements
  2. Prohibited from operating oversize or specially configured loads requiring a permit from ALDOT
  3. Limited to commercial driving within the State of Alabama only (intrastate)
  4. If you are ages 18-20 and obtaining a CDL, you must have an Alabama Driver’s License and Permit in order to test with Calhoun Community College. Out-of-state drivers must complete testing in home state if ages 18-20.
